The Washington Capitals have traded defenseman Keith Seabrook to the Calgary Flames for future considerations.
Seabrook was a second round selection of the Capitals in the 2006 NHL Draft.
It’s an interesting decision for the Capitals to be trading away young defenseman that they selected so highly in the draft, which is how they have built their current team.
The future considerations they will receive is unlikely to be anything of high value and could end up just being cash. It’s definitely an interesting move.

The Washington Capitals have re-signed defenseman Jeff Schultz to a one-year contract worth $715,000.
The 23-year old has played the past three seasons with the Capitals, which is quite impressive given how young he is.
He finished last season with one goal and 12 assists in 64 games, helping the team win its second straight Southeast Division crown.
Schultz was a first-round selection by Washington back in 2004, so the team has high hopes for his future in the NHL.

The Washington Capitals have signed forward Boyd Gordon to a one-year contract worth $761,000.
The deal keeps Gordon with the Capitals, the team that drafted him all the way back in 2002.
He made the team during the 2003-2004 season and has been a mainstay with the club ever since then.
Gordon had five goals and nine assists during 63 games last year and was a key part of the penalty killing unit.

The Washington Capitals have signed center Brendan Morrison to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.
The team expects that Morrison will become the star center they desperately need on their second line, although it may come down to whether or not he can stay on the ice.
Morrison has been kicked to the curb by three different teams over the past 15 months because of a multitude of injuries, but the Capitals believe he is finally healthy again.
He will have big shoes to fill, as he will step in for departed star Sergei Fedorov, who has decided to head back to play in his home country of Russia next year.

The Washington Capitals need to make some upgrades this offseason if they want to make a run at the Stanley Cup next year, but the salary cap stands in the way.
The team is pretty much right up against the cap, making big acquisitions appear very unlikely.
Instead, they will have to try and find cost-efficient guys who will stretch their money as far as it can go.
The team will open up some cap room with the departures of Sergei Fedorov, Viktor Kozlov and Donald Brashear.
