Capitals stunned in Game 1
For the Washington Capitals, all of the excitement of earning the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs quickly went by the wayside after a stunning, 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers in the first game of their first round playoff series.
Offense wasn’t the problem, as the Capitals put three goals on the board and more than doubled New York’s number of shots on goal.
However, goaltender Jose Theodore allowed at least three goals that should have been stopped, and it cost them dearly.
He admitted as much after the game, taking the blame for the loss and saying he would come back stronger in Game 2.
Theodore was the big question mark heading into the series, and he certainly didn’t provide any answers with that performance in Game 1.
